Our Team
Joseph Perry, Esq.
Joseph is a literary agent and publishing attorney at Perry Literary, Inc., and The Law Offices of Joseph J. Perry, P.C. As an agent he represents bestselling cookbook authors, athletes, musicians, journalists, influencers, academics, and more. As an attorney, Joseph counsels clients in the publishing industry, where among other things, he drafts, reviews, and negotiates various publishing agreements and conducts prepublication review of manuscripts.
Joseph loves to collaborate with his authors, from initial concept to final product. He views each proposal as its own work of art, and works tirelessly to help his authors improve each section therein. Joseph believes that great proposals beget great books, and that putting in the necessary work in the beginning stages clarifies a book’s objectives, which ultimately helps authors better achieve their goals.
Joseph obtained his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law and a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in English from St. Bonaventure University. He is a graduate of New York University’s Summer Publishing Institute.
When Joseph isn’t representing his clients, you can find him playing sports, playing guitar, piano, and drums, or reading the latest sports or music book.
Jen Chen Tran, Esq.
Jennifer Chen Tran is an agent at Bradford Literary. Originally from New York, Jennifer is a lifelong reader and experienced member of the publishing industry. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Northeastern School of Law in Boston, MA, and a Bachelors of Arts in English Literature from Washington University in St. Louis. She is also a licensed attorney in the state of New York.
When developing a book proposal, Jennifer understands the importance of both the big picture and differentiating details that will distinguish your book from the competition. By carefully analyzing and assessing both the strengths and weaknesses in each unique proposal, Jennifer aims to help you clarify your purpose, better craft a unforgettable message to reach the right audience, and strategically position each book for maximum attention from an editor or publisher. Her ultimate goal is to work in concert with authors to shape books that will have a positive social impact on the world—books that also inform and entertain.
On the weekends you can find Jennifer curled up with a new novel or non-fiction book, ranging from business books to memoirs. She loves any book that can teach her something new and she’s honored to work with her clients.
Testimonials
“When I queried Joe, I had an idea for a cookbook and some sample recipes. He not only helped me form an awesome proposal, he truly pushed me to better understand my potential as a cook and an author. The proposal we created together caught the eye of several publishers, and eventually ended in an amazing contract with Adams Media / Simon & Schuster. If I could do it all over again, I would pick Joe as my agent every time!”

“When I came to Joe I had a complete book proposal. I had multiple literary agents tell me how well-written and professional my deliverable was. However, after collaborating with Joe for thirty days, my book proposal is now exemplary. It’s succinct, organized, and tells the story of my manuscript in an incredibly digestible way. He really knows what publishers are looking for and that has been so helpful to someone new to the industry. I can’t thank him enough.”

“My book wouldn’t exist—much less be published—were it not for the tireless efforts of Jennifer. She inspired me to take elements of my blog and turn them into a cohesive narrative in A Crowdfunder’s Strategy Guide. I was busy running my business, so it was Jennifer who took the time to create the book proposal and found a wonderful publisher for the book. I’m forever grateful for all of the insights, advice, and hard work that Jennifer put into making my book a reality so I could help my fellow crowdfunders around the world.”
Jamey Stegmaier
Author of A Crowdfunder’s Strategy Guide and founder of Stonemaier Games
“Jen helped me get published when it was very unclear what type of appetite existed for a book about my story and food. After a year of pitching, she advised me on a critical pivot in the book’s direction. We received multiple offers and a deal soon followed. I am forever grateful for her knowledge, coaching, and persistence in pushing forward despite long odds. She certainly made the journey palatable.”

“I loved working with Joe on my book proposal — his insight and support took the proposal and project to the next level. He was very responsive with constructive feedback. Where most proposal feedback is either too glowing (“it’s wonderful!”) or overly critical (“I don’t think I can sell it… sorry”), he saw the potential in my project and helped me resolve the weak spots in my proposal — crucial input that helped me line up my book with the right publisher.”
